Black and White: Trevor Lewis / The homecoming

Trevor Lewis’ teammates have voted him as the club’s Unsung Award recipient for five years running. Through video, photographs and testimonials from coaches, teammates and club executives, including Mike Futa’s observation that “he just doesn’t cut any corners,” Lewis’ importance to the Kings and his “lunchbucket” attributes are illustrated in a Black and White episode.

“It’s no coincidence that he’s been voted that by his teammates for five years in a row. He’ll throw his body in front of pucks, he’ll take a big hit to make a play, he’s going to run through a wall to get it done, so he has a lot of respect in the room from the coaches and the players.”

The Kings won only one game of their most recent five-game road trip, but it was an important game for the eight Ontario-born players. While the United States was gripped by the presidential election that night, Los Angeles skated to a 7-0 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre, a building that many of the players who grew up around greater Toronto saw NHL games at while they were younger. Five of the team’s seven goals that night – two scored by Jeff Carter, and one each from Tyler Toffoli, Tanner Pearson and Kyle Clifford – were scored by Ontario natives. Black and White revisits that night, with video footage from team travel and in the stands, where the team greeted their families and friends after the game.
