Second round of cuts made

The Kings trimmed their training camp roster by 15 players on Saturday. All but one of the players will appear at Manchester Monarchs training camp, which opens on Wednesday.

Of note:

-Andy Andreoff won’t make the club out of training camp. The rugged 22-year-old was impressive in the rookie games against Anaheim and was considered by many to be a candidate for a roster spot. A versatile forward capable of playing center and left wing, the prospect recorded one assist in two preseason games and logged 9:25 of ice time in last night’s 4-3 overtime loss in Colorado. He and Brandon Kozun were the only two players held under 10 minutes of ice time. The club envisions Andreoff as someone who could eventually develop into a third or fourth line center.

-Nick Shore, who turns 21 on Thursday and has never played a professional regular season game, remains with the big club. He recorded a goal and an assist in 16:52 of ice time last night, a total that included 5:53 of power play time and 2:11 of shorthanded time. While skating at five-on-five, the center was primarily aligned with Dwight King and Justin Williams.

Kozun logged a team-low 8:19 of ice time last night, so this isn’t the most shocking development. A skilled, shifty forward with three AHL seasons of at least 20 goals, his organizational standing was leapfrogged over the last 12 to 24 months by players such as Tanner Pearson, Linden Vey and Tyler Toffoli. We’ll learn tomorrow whether Kozun passes through waivers.

-Marc-André Cliche was also placed on waivers. The veteran of 341 AHL games has captained the Monarchs for the last three seasons and got into one game with the Kings in 2009-10.
