Good morning, New York

Good morning, Insiders, and good morning, New York.

There’s often an awed hush when the media bus enters Manhattan. This is different from arriving in, say, Phoenix, which we visit nearly too many times to count, or Columbus, where Bob Miller has a history of humming and whistling Big Ten fight songs upon our arrival. There’s something about entering New York, whether from the sheer size of the skyscrapers or the constant observation of the hustle and bustle, that elicits its own reflection from those in the traveling party. Perhaps it was simply influenced by Friday night traffic en route from Newark Airport at the start of an extended trip, but for those of us who arrived at the team hotel shortly before 7:00 p.m., that personal reflection and comprehension surfaced again.

In lieu of any pristine skyline shots in our approach, the view from the starboard side of the aircraft depicted the New Jersey Turnpike, Pulaski Skyway and a quick glance of downtown Newark. You’re welcome.

This nondescript video more or less matched the view from my hotel room, which isn’t nearly as good as it was last year from this hotel.

The morning skate has been moved up by a half an hour to 11:00 a.m., so this will be a quick Good Morning post, as it’s now time to head downstairs and hunt for coffee before boarding the bus. I don’t believe the Islanders skate at Barclays Center on game days, so the next post will likely come in the form of practice notes, barring any quick news (or, perhaps, Quick news) picked up from the rink. The next Good Morning post will come Tuesday morning from Newark. Let’s talk soon, Insiders. Enjoy your Saturday.
