Ontario wins Game 7, will face Utah in second round - LA Kings Insider

The Ontario Reign advanced to the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs with a 4-2 win over the Colorado Eagles in Game 7 of the teams’ first round series Tuesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena. After exiting the first period tied 1-1, the Reign used three goals in under six minutes over the second half of the second period to break the game open. Maxim Kitsyn posted an assist and a game-high five shots on goal, Gasper Kopitar and Alex Roach each recorded a shot, and 5-foot-8 scrapper Norm Ezekiel, a teammate of Tanner Pearson, Mark Scheifele and Aaron Ekblad with the Barrie Colts, had a major impact by scoring on a rush when he followed his rebound and also issued a punishing hit on former Reign forward Kyle Kraemer, leading directly to Everett Sheen’s insurance goal.

The Reign will now face the Utah Grizzlies, who defeated division champion Idaho in six games in the first round. Ontario was 6-3-1-1 in the regular season against Utah, the seven-team Pacific Division’s fourth-place team.
