When I traveled to Sweden to write about Anze and Gasper Kopitar playing together during the lockout, I was fortunate to take in a Mora IK vs Djurgardens IF game at Hovet – next door to the iconic Ericsson Globe – in Stockholm.
Gabriel Landeskog played with Douglas Murray for Djurgardens during the lockout and recorded an assist as the home side built a 2-1 lead that stood up through two and a half periods of hockey.
With his side needing an equalizer, Anze Kopitar found a seam off a pass out of his defensive zone, danced around a Djurgardens defenseman, and scored the most highlight-worthy goal I saw in Sweden. Fast forward to 1:12 on the player below to watch that goal in its glory, and appreciate the fine Swedish commentary.
Mora eventually won the game 3-2 in a shootout, though Kopitar was denied in the extra session.
A stick tap goes out to John Hoven of Mayor’s Manor for originally embedding the video in a post back in October.
While you’re here, please watch this Swedish hockey commentator skating during pre-game and write letters to FOX Sports West to recommend that Patrick O’Neal is used in a similar capacity.
Also, what discussion of Stockholm Hockey would be complete without The Royal Half’s recap of The Humiliation at Hovet?
That reminds me of those reporters on horses who gallop along side the jockey after a race. If Pat can’t skate, maybe a Zamboni will suffice?

@LA_1968,
Other Russian’s have used yellow laces. They used to only be available as wax coated laces until fairly recently.

White laces have been the standard for decades, but yellow is slowly creeping into the game. Current devotees include Ilya Kovalchuk, Slava Koslov, Alex Ovechkin (who’s erroneously shown wearing white laces in NHL 07), Jaromir Jagr (whose yellow laces really clash with the Rangers’ color scheme), Marc Savard (now there’s how to match your laces to your uni!), and Petr Nedved.
Note that most of those players are European or Russian. That’s apparently because many European players grew up wearing skates made by Graf, a German company that uses yellow laces as the default color for most of its skates. But the white/yellow choice isn’t just a matter of color — for years yellow laces have usually been waxed (which some players prefer because, depending on who you ask, they’re easier to tie and/or don’t come loose), while white ones are usually unwaxed. Although waxed laces have more recently become available in multiple colors, the historical association between yellow and wax is still strong, so most players who prefer the waxed style tend to wear yellow.

@Kingsfanone, I admit that I did not know about the yellow relating to wax. Thanks for the info really. I do still think 8 is a hotdog. Also, I elude that most of those guys on your list are also similar. So maybe I’m criticizing eastern European players. Mostly Ovi.
@Paul Armbruster (KingsStuffAllTheTime.com),
The NJ Errors are getting absolutely dominated by Ovi & Caps!

That is such a great name for a team. LOL. An assist for Lokti along with a huge increase in playing time. Of course, losing doesn’t help his cause.

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com),
Guess they don’t care if he doesn’t have a great defensive side. His goal you posted on your site was typical Lokti, but they left him alone there. That’s not gonna keep happening and teams will start hitting him. Then we’ll see if he can still be effective or injury free.
