Jack Campbell, on how to have success in the upcoming series against San Diego:
They’re a good team. It’s going to take sixty minutes of our game to beat ’em and that’s what we plan on doing, just sticking to our game and having success that way.
Campbell, on what San Diego does well:
They’re a pretty good team with the puck, so we just gotta make sure we’re chipping it in and going to work and trying to play in their offensive zone because they have a lot of skill. They do a great job at finding open guys and making plays. So, yeah, just chipping pucks in and trying to keep the puck on offense.
Jonny Brodzinski, on what he took away from the game:
They play hard so I think we just gotta bring a little bit more. I think that third period kind of just slipped away from us a little bit. They got a few more chances than us. We weren’t very tight defensively. Just a few breakdowns in our zone that led to a few of their goals and that was the game.
Brodzinski, on San Diego’s ability to score quickly after the Reign had:
It’s just playing with the lead right now is what we need to do. We need to get the first one. I think the last couple games we haven’t been able to do that and that’s a huge part of the game is getting that first goal and making the other team play from behind and maybe they’re chasing a little bit and then you create opportunities off that. I think that’s one of the big things, just scoring first. [Reporter: Do you feel like it hits a little harder when you do give up the first one?] Yeah, I think it’s just the battling from behind hurts a little bit, too. You’re maybe just trying a little bit too hard and then you’re out of position defensively and then they capitalize. It’s just little things that we need to tighten up here going into next week.
Brodzinski, on preparing for San Diego next week:
We’ve played these guys a lot of times this year. It’s a very familiar team. I know it will be a different lineup than what they’re playing with and what we’re playing with too. It’s definitely going to be a fun weekend.
Sam Herr, on the game overall:
I thought it was all right. Obviously we wanted the win but we came out of the game pretty healthy. There’s some things to clean up on, for instance fourth goal it was kind of my fault a little bit, let my D-man go. So, little things like that to clean up on, for the most part, looking at last weekend a looking at this weekend it’s good competition. Get ready for a physical series.
Herr, on what may be the difference in the series against the Gulls:
I think first goal, for sure. Always nice playing with the lead. Power plays. They’re a physical team. Sometimes consequences come with them taking penalties early. So, if we can jump on a power play early, get up and score first, control the pace of the play after that I think we’ll be all right.
Herr, on maintaining discipline against San Diego and Stu Bickel:
Discipline’s going to be huge. If we’re a more disciplined team, we probably have a better chance. You’ve got to know that they’re gonna run around a little bit. They’ve got some guys out there that play a little bit of reckless hockey so just play with your head up, be smart and stay out of it a little bit but definitely protecting teammates.
Herr, on going into his second postseason with more experience:
Playing with a little bit of poise, playing my game, not letting the moment distract me a little bit. I got a little taste of the playoffs last year so take what I can from that. Come in this year with a little bit more poise,
maybe make a little bit more plays, play a little bit calmer and go from there.
