December 4 postgame quotes: Kopitar, Doughty

Anze Kopitar, on taking one point from a back-and-forth game:
A lot of time it comes down to a battle of special teams, and we got two and we gave up two. That’s usually a tie, and then I think scoring four goals at home should be enough to win, which brings me to point where we’ve got to simply cut our goals-against down.

Kopitar, on trying to look for holes in Carey Price’s game:
I mean, he’s only human, too. He’s obviously a world-class goaltender, but if you throw pucks at him and create some traffic and try to get in his eyes, he can’t stop anything. That’s what we did. I think the power play was obviously moving the puck well and was taking the good shots with some screens in front, and that’s how they go in.

Kopitar, on whether the team was looking to shoot high-glove in the shootout:
No, you do a little pre-scout, and once you go in, you kind of pick your spots. Each and every guy is different. You’ve got a move, maybe two that you’ve got on him and you just try and do it.

Drew Doughty, on the shootout loss:
We had the lead a couple times and we’d have liked to keep it, obviously. We kind of let ‘em back into it quickly after we had taken it. You want to keep the momentum on your side and keep going and try to just get the next one before they do.

Doughty, on generating scoring chances and developing a consistent attack:
We were good offensive, obviously, but we don’t win too many games giving up the three or four goals, and that’s why we lost tonight – because we gave up too many goals. We had opportunities to shut ‘em down and close out the game, and we weren’t able to do that. That’s why we lost.

Doughty, on scoring four times on Carey Price:
Obviously Carey’s one of the best goalies in the league, if not – he’s definitely top-three. To get that many by him is good for our team. It gives us a little bit of a confidence boost, but we take more pride in the defensive game. Like I said, that’s why we lost, so we’re pretty upset about that.

Doughty, on whether the Kings focused on shooting high-glove on Price:
I think our number one thing, obviously we study their goalies and kind of find out their weak spots and whatnot. On all those goals for the most part, he had a screen in front of him and that’s why he let ‘em in. Without the breakaway and the rebound goal, those other two, our bodies were right in front, so he couldn’t see the puck. That’s why they went in.
