Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…
(on the matchup against Nash, and giving up the late goal…)
MURRAY: “The matchup was good, it was effective all night long. Handzus, that’s the line we want out against those guys. They’re a big line a big line. We feel we’ve got three big guys on Handzus’ line and they were excellent throughout the whole game, and they [Blue Jackets] come down and make one cross-ice pass, and their best player wins the game for them.”
(on the defensive mental lapses…)
MURRAY: “Well they made it look easy there on a couple of those goals tonight. They got a break on their second goal, stepping out of the penalty box. Their first goal [and] their third goal I thought were breakdowns, where it was very easy for them. We lost our coverage and they were able to keep themselves alive there. A couple of their goals are from their secondary scoring, fourth line. They end with their big guys scoring the winning goal for them. We’ll have to just tighten things up as we head out on the road.”
(on the improvement of the Blue Jackets…)
MURRAY: “Well, it starts out with a 5-on-3 power play, a lengthy one. So we felt, for sure, that we were going to have to make sure we were skating and doing the right things and play hard. But you look at the way they’ve played their last few games, on a pre-scout look, they played well. They’re scoring goals. They have changed their whole staff around. There’s a lot of change in their style of play and their system of play, and it looks like Mason is back on track. He was a real top goaltender two years ago, and he’s getting it back right now.”
(on being down about losing at home…)
MURRAY: “You can [be down] if the other team comes in and beats you. Then you deal with it, you absorb it, you suck it up and you move on. We don’t like the way we’ve played here now the last couple of games. As I said, a couple of those goals looked pretty easy for them, and that’s really out of character when we have a one-goal lead in the third period. I thought that’s something that we’ve been able to shut down, and do the right thing the rest of the game to maintain that lead and win the game.”
