Before Friday’s game, Terry Murray had some relatively sharp, public criticism of Wayne Simmonds’ recent games. Did the public motivation work? Simmonds played 11:12, was credited with one shot on goal and three hits, got into a fight with Andrew Alberts and nearly gave the Kings a three-goal lead in the third period when his sharp wrist shot rang off the post. What did Murray think?
MURRAY: “I was real happy for him. He kept the game the right way, as far as skating, getting on the puck, keeping a `north’ attitude, getting physical — he got involved with Alberts early in the game — and that’s what Simmonds has to do. He ends up having a couple great opportunities to score goals. The line had a big goal at the end, when Brownie scores it, but a lot of good things happened on that line with puck possession, holding onto it and using their size and strength to their advantage.”
