Not much power yet

The Kings are 3-1, and the penalty kill has been outstanding (18 of 20, with one into an empty net), but the Kings’ lack of production on the power play has been glaring. After Friday’s 0-for-5, they’re now 1-for-16 on the season, and the chances aren’t even really there. The Kings had one power-play shot on goal Friday, one shot on two power plays Tuesday against Atlanta and one shot on three power plays in Sunday’s loss to Calgary. Last season, the Kings had the league’s seventh-most-efficient power play, and most of the personnel is the same.

“I wish we would have had some possession play and moved it around, settled things down in the offensive zone,” Kings coach Terry Murray said of Friday’s power play, “but Vancouver’s penalty-killing was tremendous. They really were aggressive. They jumped on players with the puck and made a lot of smart reads with it. So give them some credit, but we’ll just continue to spend the amount of time that we are spending on the power play. We think it’s sufficient to keep it going.”
