I generally avoid posting updates that are LOL THERE IS NO UPDATE, but the word back from hockey operations this morning is that Jake Muzzin and Matt Greene are scheduled to see the doctor “later today,” so the next update on their statuses will likely come at some time in the afternoon. Both players suffered “upper-body” injuries during Los Angeles’ 2-1 shootout win over Colorado in preseason action Sunday night in Denver. Muzzin was injured in the first period, presumably when he was hit hard by the Avalanche’s Blake Comeau along the boards in the Kings’ zone, and remained on the ice for several shifts but did not return to the bench for the second period. Greene suffered an injury at some point in the second period, and while he stayed on the bench for the remainder of the game, did not play in the third period or in overtime.
Now that’s taken care of, here’s an interesting story from the Washington Post (and a stick tap to WHOneedsSOX for posting it last night) on Justin Williams’ early impact in the Capitals’ dressing room. It’s Kings-related; here’s an excerpt:
Two springs ago, with the Washington Capitals absent from the postseason and organizational shake-ups imminent, Karl Alzner watched the Los Angeles Kings survive three straight Game 7s en route to the Stanley Cup finals and wished he held an all-access, behind-the-scenes pass. Just once, Alzner told friends and family, he wanted to hear how the Kings talked inside their dressing room. How they handled large deficits or blown leads. How champions acted under duress.
“I want to see what that reaction is,” Alzner said. “I know how ours is, and I think it’s really good at a lot of times, but I’m wondering if it’s different. That’s something you don’t really find out unless you’re with those guys or on one of those teams.”
The Kings have just taken the ice for their 11:00 a.m. practice. Lots more to come today.
