The Kings finally got some help in the Western Conference standings Sunday. Minnesota beat Calgary 4-3, keeping the Kings six points clear of the ninth-place Flames with two games in hand. The Kings’ “magic number” to eliminate the Flames is now 15, down from 19 less than 48 hours ago.
Nashville did win, to move two points ahead of the Kings for fifth place, although the Kings have three games in hand. Of more immediate importance is Colorado, which lost to Anaheim last night and remained one point behind the Kings heading into tonight’s game at Staples Center. The Kings face the Avalanche three times in their final 12 games.
MURRAY: “We’ve played them one time, and here we are in March already, near the end of March. It’s pretty amazing. But it’s an interesting finish to the schedule, when you look at the league. It always narrows it down to division and conference play, certainly division play. A two-game series here, right now, is pretty exciting.”
