Sutter gives updates on Stoll, Carter, Greene, Clifford; makes reporters laugh

Jarret Stoll was on the ice but did not take part in line rushes this morning at the First Niagara Center and remained on the ice for extra work after the rest of the team headed to the dressing room. This is an indication that he will not play in tonight’s game against the Buffalo Sabres.

“Jarret Stoll is out on the ice right now,” Darryl Sutter said following the team’s morning skate. “He joined us on the trip. So at some point we’ll see if he can play or not on this trip.”

Jeff Carter, Matt Greene and Kyle Clifford did not travel with the team on Monday, though there is hope that some combination of the players join the team in New York later this week.

“Jeff Carter’s still on injured reserve,” he said. “As you well know, once a player’s activated from injured reserve, then he’s able to play. So that will be [at] some point. When you see that he’s activated, then you’ll see that he’s ready to play. The other two guys are not on injured reserve and are not with us on the trip, and maybe they’ll join us in New York. That’s all I can say.”

Sutter also got a rise out of the media scrum while offering a deadpan response to whether it was dangerous playing a team that has not yet won on home ice.
