Michael Cammalleri on playing his first game of the year:
It was fun. It felt quick, you know. It’s been a lot being out there on a full ice sheet by yourself, so when there’s 11 bodies out there moving at NHL speed it feels a little different, for sure. Big win for the boys.
Cammalleri on scoring the first goal of the game:
It helps. Any player will tell you if you can contribute in any way, and one ways is scoring or making a good play defensively, whatever it is you can contribute, legs get a little lighter and it helps a little bit for sure. It helps.
Cammalleri on the win:
I have said it many times, we play the consummate team sport. We are all just pieces. Tonight was a nice win for us against a very good team.
Cammalleri on the power play:
The tangible things were I thought we were quick on pucks and had some poise with it, but I think maybe more importantly there was a little bit of hunger. A little bit of a desire. Kind of that intangible stuff that when you have it the puck seems to roll its way in sometimes.
Cammalleri on how he thought the team played:
It’s almost too soon to answer that. You go into the video session tomorrow and you usually find out… I thought there were points in the game when they definitely took it to us, but overall, I like a lot of things about our game. What were the shot totals? [Reporter:29-25.] So you know, not that lopsided one way or another. I think the big thing from out there, you can criticize all you want and it is important to be very constructive and for us to get better at the details but you have to remind yourself that there is another NHL team out there, especially a team like that. So they are going to do some good things too and put you in some situations you don’t want to be in. That’s what they are trying to do.
Cammalleri on playing with Sean Monahan for the first time:
[He is] much stronger than I would have expect for his age on the puck and skating through the neutral zone. The things, it’s funny, he kind of reminds me a little bit of a guy on the other team that I played with his first two years in the league. If you can guess that’s Kopitar. Their ability to, at a young age, have poise with the puck yet be powerful and strong out there and be able to compete at this level. [Monahan] showed it on his goal and he showed it carrying the puck through the neutral zone a few times. That’s what used to impress me so much about Anze and you can draw some similarity there.
Bob Hartley on the physical play of his team:
A real gutsy effort and scored three goals on the power play. We knew coming here that it would be physical so there would be power plays on both sides and I think that we won the special team battle.
Hartley on the power play:
Our execution was very good. We kept it simple like the right guys had the puck. I think that Cammy brought like a totally new dimension to our power play. We have one of the best shooters on this side on the one-timer, as we saw on our first goal. He can snipe that puck real quick and he did.
Hartley on Michael Cammalleri’s return:
Let’s remember that this guy played just one exhibition game and got hurt. Since then, he didn’t even practice with us. Yesterday we had like about a 20-minute practice so that’s just a commitment to what he did at home with our conditioning staff, the way that he worked, the way that he prepared tonight. I didn’t see the sheet yet, I don’t know how many minutes he played but he was fresh like he didn’t miss a beat. That’s pretty rare because he missed quite a few weeks.
Hartley on his impression of Sean Monahan:
He’s fun to coach. He’s fun to have around. He’s a great kid and he can, quite honestly, he is quite a learner. You don’t have to repeat with him.
Sean Monahan on how he played:
I think I tried to play as hard as I could and I guess do the little things. I think my linemates helped me out there. I think I felt good out there. I’m just happy we got a win.
Monahan on his hot start to the season:
I guess I didn’t know what to expect coming into it. I want to do my job and work hard every day and try to get better every day and that’s what I am doing right now.
Monahan on his ice time:
Yeah, I felt fine, I guess it’s a couple minutes more than I’ve been playing, but it didn’t seem any different, but you got to compete every shift and that’s what I try to do.
Monahan on playing the Kings:
They’re physical. I guess they are probably the most physical team that we have played so far and I think we adapted well and talked well out there to support teammates and move the puck well. Fortunately we came out with the win.
Monahan on drawing penalties:
We kept our feet moving and stay disciplined and that really helped us out.
Karri Ramo on the win:
Just battle, work hard, go first to the puck and try to win battles on D. I think our D played really good. We are really confident in our conditioning. The other team has to play really hard to get us tired.
Ramo on how he played:
It was a tough game, it’s a tough team to play against, but we prepared and we knew they were going to come hard and I was able to help our guys a little bit in the first. We battled really good, we bounced back really good. so it’s a good win.
Ramo on the Carter’s shorthanded goal:
I don’t know. I think it was just a bad bounce. There are things that I can do differently.
Ramo on how he has played:
I didn’t feel that bad in San Jose there. I felt pretty good. This time the puck bounces our way and we get the win. It’s been real hard. It’s been real tight games, most of them one-goal games. We get the bounce in today to win the game and Brodie made a really good shot on the goal and we were able to get two points.
