There will soon be another Sutter back in the NHL. The Carolina Hurricanes are expected to have Brett Sutter in the lineup for tomorrow’s game against Buffalo. Sutter, captain of the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, is the son of Kings coach Darryl Sutter. In fact, in one of his last moves as Calgary’s general manager, Darryl Sutter traded his son from the Flames to Carolina for Anton Babchuk and Tom Kostopoulos. Brett Sutter, 24, has one goal and four assists in 24 career NHL games. The Kings visit Carolina on Feb. 4. After today’s morning skate, Darryl Sutter wasn’t aware of Brett’s impending call-up, and said in-season conversations between the two were family related, not hockey related.
SUTTER: “I’m his dad. That’s more important. … I talked to him yesterday, because I hadn’t seen him since the fall. I was hoping, that if he wasn’t up with the big team during their (AHL) All-Star break — because theirs is a couple days after (the NHL’s) — that he could come out here. That’s what we talked about yesterday, not about hockey.’’
