It’s obvious to note that this is a critical time for the Kings. They’re getting ready for the third game in a six-game homestand, against a Phoenix team that is only three points behind them. For the Kings, keeping distance between themselves and the Coyotes is huge. There’s also a game with close rival Dallas at the end of the homestand. Immediately, though, there are the Coyotes, against whom the Kings have a 2-0-1 record this season. The Coyotes, though, have regained the services of previously injured goalie Mike Smith, and also got some quality play from Curtis McElhinney during Smith’s absence. Darry Sutter got a look at the Coyotes less than 10 days ago at Staples Center.
SUTTER: “It’s a good team. They’re well-coached. Quite honestly, Phoenix has great leadership, with Shane (Doan) and Daymond (Langkow) and Adrian (Aucoin). They bring it every night. They don’t take nights off. You’ve got to match them.’’
