Postgame notes (Dec. 22)

Some notes from last night’s game…

— The Kings began the Darryl Sutter era with a win, as they beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in a shootout on Thursday night at Staples Center.

— Jarret Stoll scored in the first round of the shootout and Dustin Brown scored the winner in the third round. Kings goalie Jonathan Quick stopped two of three attempts.

— The Kings snapped a three-game home losing streak and won for the first time at home since Dec. 1.

— The Kings have scored two or fewer regulation goals in 13 consecutive games, a franchise record.

— The Kings improved to 8-8-1 at Staples Center, 10-6-4 in one-goal games, 5-12-1 when allowing the first goal and 3-2 in shootouts.

— The Kings outshot the Ducks 34-22, including 12-6 in the second period.

— The Kings went 0-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. In their last eight games, the Kings are 1-for-26 on the power play and 29-for-31 on the penalty kill.

— Jonathan Quick stopped 20 of 22 shots to improve his record to 14-10-4.

— Mike Richards scored a second-period goal, his team-high 12th goal of the season. Richards returned to the lineup after missing the previous eight games. The Kings have a 12-2-2 record this season when Richards records at least one point.

— Dustin Brown scored a third-period goal, his eighth goal of the season. Brown has three goals and one assist in his last four games.

— Drew Doughty had two assists, and now has 10 assists for the season. It was Doughty’s third two-point game of the season and his first since Nov. 10. Doughty has four assists in his last four games.

— Anze Kopitar had one assist, to push his team-high totals to 21 assists and 31 points. Kopitar has three assists in his last four games.

— Dustin Brown recorded a game-high five shots on goal and a team-high six hits. Jack Johnson was credited with a team-high two blocked shots.

— Drew Doughty led the Kings in ice time, at 25 minutes, 42 seconds, followed by Anze Kopitar, at 23:14.

— The Kings won 34 of 62 faceoffs (55 percent). Mike Richards won 12 of 24 draws (50 percent). Anze Kopitar won 10 of 17 draws (59 percent). Jarret Stoll won 9 of 15 draws (60 percent).
