THIRD PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick against Hackett.
Wild 3, Kings 1: The Kings got on the scoreboard 3:59 into the third period, on a Dustin Penner goal. Hackett made a save, but the rebound kicked into the slot, right onto the stick of Penner, who quickly shot and scored. Jack Johnson and Anze Kopitar and picked up assists.
Wild 4, Kings 1: Minnesota regained its three-goal lead with 8:18 remaining in the third period. Cody Almond took a short pass from Nick Johnson and shot from the high slot. Quick stopped the puck and tried to hold it, but it trickled past him and over the line. Darroll Powe also got an assist.
Wild 4, Kings 2: Trent Hunter scored his first goal with the Kings, and his 100th NHL goal, with 3:28 remaining. Kyle Clifford played a rebound in front of the Minnesota net, then Hunter skated in and poked the puck past Hackett. Jack Johnson also got an assist.
SECOND PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick against Hackett.
Wild 2, Kings 0: Once again, the Kings allowed a goal in the opening two minutes of a period. This time, Quick scrambled to cover a loose puck in the crease, after a Nick Johnson shot, but left the net open. Drew Doughty stepped in and blocked a potential goal, but Darroll Powe picked up the puck and scored from close range at the 1:25 mark. Johnson and Kyle Brodziak picked up assists.
Game misconduct: At the 4:48 mark of the second period, Minnesota’s Kyle Brodziak got a five-minute boarding penalty and a game misconduct for a hit on Anze Kopitar. Brodziak hit Kopitar near the corner and Kopitar went head first into the boards but returned to the bench after a minute of game action. The Kings did not record a shot on goal during the 3-minute, 38-second power play.
Wild 3, Kings 0: The Wild took a three-goal lead in a delayed-penalty situation with 3:58 remaining in the second period. Dany Heatley took the puck up the left side, in the Kings’ zone, and centered it toward Marco Scandella, who beat Quick with a wrist shot from the slot. Matt Cullen also got an assist.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Wild 13-7 in the second period but allowed the period’s only two goals. The third period will start with 22 seconds of 4-on-4 play, followed by a Kings power play for 1:20.
FIRST PERIOD
In goal: It’s the Kings’ Jonathan Quick against the Wild’s Matt Hackett.
Lineup update: Justin Williams, whose status for the game had been questionable because of a hand injury, is in the lineup tonight.
Wild 1, Kings 0: The Wild got on the scoreboard just 24 seconds into the game. Jared Spurgeon’s point shot went wide, but Mikko Koivu picked up the puck and scored on a wraparound before Quick could cover the post. Jeff Taffe also got an assist.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Wild 13-12 in the period. After a near-disastrous first four minutes, the Kings rebounded fairly well and got a handful of quality scoring chances, but no goals.
