Some notes from yesterday’s game…
— The Kings lost to Montreal for the seventh consecutive game, dating to 2004, as they fell to the Canadiens 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Staples Center.
— The Kings have scored two or fewer goals in five consecutive games, and have a total of eight goals in those five games. The Kings had been 10-1-1 when allowing the opponent to score two or fewer goals. The Kings are 5-8-4 when they scored two or fewer goals.
— Shots were even, 27-27. The Kings outshot the Canadiens 14-5 in the first period and were outshot 13-7 in the second period.
— The Kings went 1-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill. The Kings had killed 24 consecutive penalties before Montreal’s first-period power-play goal.
— The Kings fell to 7-6-1 at Staples Center, 7-4-4 in one-goal games, 3-7-1 when allowing the first goal, 2-3-1 when trailing after the first period and 0-8-1 when trailing after the second period.
— Jonathan Bernier stopped 25 of 27 shots but fell to 2-3-0 in his fifth start of the season. Bernier has allowed two goals in each of his last two starts.
— Dustin Penner scored the Kings’ only goal, on the power play in the second period. It was Penner’s first goal of the season — and third poin — and his first goal since March 13 of last season, at Dallas.
— Drew Doughty assisted on the goal, his sixth assist and eighth point of the season. Five of Doughty’s six assists this season have come on the power play.
— Trent Hunter assisted on the goal, for his third assist and third point of the season, and his first power-play point.
— Dustin Brown played in his 539th NHL game — all with the Kings — the same total that Wayne Gretzky (and Bob Berry) played for the Kings.
— Dustin Brown and Simon Gagne each recorded a team-high four shots on goal. Brown was credited with a game-high five hits. Davis Drewiske and Colin Fraser each were credited with a team-high two blocked shots.
— Drew Doughty played a game-high 29 minutes, 35 seconds, followed by Jack Johnson, at 27:45. Anze Kopitar led all Kings forwards in ice time, at 24:21, followed by Dustin Brown, at 23:02.
