Fraser, Hunter get their chances

Tomorrow is “opportunity day” around the Kings’ locker room. Trent Hunter will get back in the lineup after four consecutive games as a healthy scratch, and Colin Fraser will make his season/Kings debut. Both would be wise to make a good impression. With Scott Parse out of the lineup, the Kings haven’t ruled out bringing up Andrei Loktionov from the AHL, but want to give the two veteran guys an opportunity to show what they can do. Hunter has one assist in five games so far. More on Fraser later, including his thoughts about finally getting into the lineup after late-summer foot surgery. For now, here are Terry Murray’s thoughts on getting Hunter and Fraser back into the lineup.

MURRAY: “I’m going to put Hunter in, and he will go in that position on the right side, with Stoll. We signed Hunter as a player who can score some goals for us. He’s a veteran player, and his resume is pretty good, to give you a dozen goals or so. I’m hoping that he can get right back in and get on his game and give us some offense.

“If (Fraser) gets out of today without any issues and feels good, we’re going to get him in. He’s a Flyer draft pick, so I know him pretty well from those rookie games, the couple years that he was a Flyer. He’s a very gritty guy. He’s very competitive. He’s going to be a player who gets in those battles, in those hard areas, all the time. He’s a good special-teams player, penalty-killer. He’s an energy guy. He’s a bit of a chirper, kind of, that kind of player. He’s going to be very involved in the game. He’s very active. He’s very connected to what’s going on on the bench, watching things. He’s a very encouraging guy on the ice. I watch him in practice and, emotionally, he’s there every day. So I’m looking forward to seeing him play. You see him play as an opponent, over the past couple years, and you don’t get the microscope on him, but I know he always brings a team-first kind of a game.’’
