Murray postgame quotes (Nov. 8)

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on the game…)
MURRAY: “The effort was really good. You are playing a game last night in San Jose, a hard game, and you’ve got a team that’s sitting here fresh, watching the game on television, and I thought we came out and played a real good first period. I liked the energy, I liked the compete, I liked the tempo and the attitude that we started the game with, and it had a little ebb and flow, I thought, but at the end of the day the compete was very good.’’

(on the start of the season for Gagne and Richards…)

MURRAY: “If you want to put them on a scale of one through five, I’d give them a four. They’ve made an adjustment in their life to come to the West Coast and be an L.A. King. That always takes time to get settled with family and kids. You’ve got other things going on in your life, but they are real pros in that they come to the rink every day and they are on their own little sanctuary and come and be good teammates and learning to be members of the team, the system, the style, the culture that we are putting together here. So, that part there gets a five in my opinion, and their play is a four. They’ve put points up on the board and they’ve been great pros to help us keep moving through it.’’

(on defensive scoring and balanced scoring…)
MURRAY: “There were some real good plays created through the back end. I liked the attitude of shooting the puck the way they did in the early part of the game. Richards’ line, Brownie makes a great play on the Richards goal, a one-timer. That’s textbook, that you would pull off and use for your training camp, to teach attacks. I really liked the support group, the way they played tonight. They were on the puck, they were intense and had a real good checking attitude.’’

(on whether that was Penner’s best game as a King…)
MURRAY: “Probably. Could be. It would be right there. I’ve liked his last couple games. He’s been bringing good work and trying to get some scoring in his game. Last night he had a couple real good looks, and tonight he makes a play to the net and Gagne ends up getting the goal. So, it’s coming. Just bring the work, bring the structure and the real good attitude, like he has in the last three games, and I think the other part will come out.’’
