Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…
(on scoring five goals after the recent drought…)
MURRAY: “And against a real good hockey team. Lehtonen is off to a tremendous start to his year. So to come in here and score five, it’s a big team effort. It took everybody to get the job done here tonight, with the special teams and I thought the game we showed in the offensive zone was pretty good, on recovering the pucks. We were moving our feet and creating separation to get some other opportunities. It’s a huge win for us in here.’’
(on Voynov’s play…)
MURRAY: “Voynov, he’s got a big shot. He shoots the puck. He’s got a nice skill that you don’t coach, and that’s the offensive part of the game. He’s got incredible composure. He sees the ice. He makes plays and he’s an instinct to be a part of the attack and to get pucks to the net. The puck comes back to him and he wants to shoot away. I’m going to keep encouraging it, because he’s a young guy and that’s a very valuable tool to have for a young player.’’
(on Voynov making it tough for the Kings to send him down…)
MURRAY: “Well, yeah, it looks like Doughty is going to be ready to go here, probably on the weekend, the next game. So yeah, there’s some decisions to be made, maybe more so by management than the coaching staff. We’ll see how that goes. But after tonight’s game, it gets you to think.’’
(on giving up the lead in the third period…)
MURRAY: “They signed a free agent, Ryder, and that’s what his purpose is. That’s why they signed him, is to score goals. He’s a dangerous player around the net. He’s very strong and that was a big goal for them at that time. Then they come back with their play behind the net. We lost a little coverage on that one, but give them credit. They made a strong play there to tie it up. But the response that we showed is what is important. At a critical time, a critical moment, you’ve got to come and do the right things.’’
(on the strong second period…)
MURRAY: “The second period, we came out real well. I really liked the way we showed some support for the puck here tonight. We recovered, we had great second-man support there right away, and that’s where Voynov scores his first goal, with Kopi jumping in and grabbing that puck. That’s the kind of play that we want to continue to build on.’’
