Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on the game…)
MURRAY: “The game, tonight, is about turnovers. All three goals that New Jersey scores end up being plays that we have possession of the puck and we just don’t execute and they come right back at us and end up scoring. The bottom line is, the best players on New Jersey — you look at the score sheet — they’re the guys that determine the outcome of the game. We need to be better. Our best players have got to be better players in order to win games in this league. We just were not on top of it.’’

(on Bernier’s play…)
MURRAY: “Bernier was fine. Bernier, I thought, made some big stops in the early going. We gave up some quality chances in the first period and he played well. This was not about the goaltending. This was all about managing the puck, and turnovers and giveaways that ended up being very easy goals against.’’

(on any worries about Bernier’s confidence, after two losses…)
MURRAY: “No, I’m not worried about his confidence. He’s a pretty gifted guy, I think, with his ability to manage his mental part of the game. As a young goaltender, you’re always on top of, and watching closely, how his mechanics are and how aggressive he is in his play. Over the course of time, with his confidence, he’s always showed me the ability to deal with what’s going on out there.’’

MURRAY: “No. You can dissect this whole thing anyway you want, you know?’’

(on the lack of sustained offensive pressure…)
MURRAY: “A little bit in the second, a little in the third, but early is where the game was at. You give them a lot of good feeling, a lot of momentum, a lot of confidence. They started handling the puck and making plays in our end because of what they were doing, and what we were not doing, in the first period. Then it carried over in their game. The bottom line is, you’ve got to compete, you’ve got to be ready to play hard every night in this game. I think, with what we showed in our first half there, it’s just not good enough. If we’re going to be a top team in the league, you have to go out and earn the right to win every night.’’
