Kings defenseman Drew Doughty wins gold medal at 2025 4 Nations Face-Off

Congratulations to LA Kings defenseman Drew Doughty on winning yet another trophy on the international state, as he and Team Canada skated to victory at the inaugural 4 Nations Face-Off.

Doughty and his teammates defeated the United States by a 3-2 final score in overtime on Thursday evening at TD Garden in Boston, MA as the veteran defenseman racked up yet another honor playing for his country.

Entering the tournament, Doughty had Olympic gold medals in 2010 and 2014 to his name, with a selection to the All-Tournament Team in 2014, along with a championship at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Add onto that a gold medal at the World Juniors and a silver at the World Championships and that’s a lot of hardware for a player who also has two Stanley Cups and a Norris Trophy to his name.

This time around, while Doughty was not in a starring role for Team Canada, he turned out to be a shrewd selection, drawing praise from the national media for the way he played throughout the tournament. Doughty began as the team’s seventh defenseman but elevated his way higher in the lineup as the tournament progresses. As he said he would before he departed Los Angeles. As he did in 2010. By the gold-medal game, Doughty was on the second pair, logging the fourth most minutes against the United States in the final match.

Doughty’s final statline finishes as such –

4 Games Played, 1 Assist, +1 rating. Doughty was on the ice for Nathan MacKinnon’s game-opening goal last night as Canada took an early lead and was out there for no goals against.

It wasn’t perfect from Doughty, who had played in only six regular-season games before the event. His underlying numbers that I saw looked to be pretty solid at both ends of the ice. While he doesn’t have the flash that a Cale Makar does, it takes a number of different players to step up in a short, international tournament. After entering the tournament as an unknown, having only played six regular-season games, Doughty had himself a pretty solid showing. Good for him. Should be good for the Kings as well, who get Doughty back with four more games of sharpness under his belt.

For now, assume a bit of a celebration after the game with his international teammates before they become rivals once again. Won’t be long before Doughty takes on Mark Stone on Monday, with six of his next ten games coming against teams with at least one member of Team Canada. Expecting Doughty to return to Los Angeles soon, if he hasn’t already, to get back into things with the Kings. Nothing to suggest that he wouldn’t play against Utah on Saturday, though there could be something for giving him the game off to recover off a cross-country flight. Will get that answer from Jim Hiller after practice on Friday in El Segundo.

For now, enjoy some Drew Doughty content, if you’re so inclined. Kings are back at it on Saturday!
