Game Thread – Kings vs. Ducks, 9/28

Los Angeles Kings 3, Anaheim Ducks 2
3:41 Left, Third Period
Game PreviewVIDEO: Bally Sports West
AUDIO: ESPN LA App, LA Kings App
SOG: LAK – 29 ANA – 18
PP: LAK – 1/2 ANA – 1/3

Third Period
20:00 – Final 20 minutes are underway in Ontario!
18:55 – LAK Goal – Laferriere, x2! Hammers the Kopitar pass home first time from the slot. Exactly what you want to see from him. If he keeps ripping em like that he should have no problem making that spot his own.
14:34 – Huge left-pad save by Rittich. Challenged the shooter aggressively on a partial odd-man rush the other way and kicked the rebound through the slot, out of danger.
4:46 – ANA Goal – Deflection goal for Vatrano. Shot from the outside, looked to kick off the leg of Vatrano and in, as the Ducks pull to within a goal. 3-2 game.
3:41 – Ducks will get a late power play, trailing by a goal. Kempe sits for I believe boarding. Will keep an eye on the Anaheim net.

Second Period
20:00 – Second period has begun, with the teams tied at one.
18:04 – Kings get their second chance on the power play. Smith goes to the box for the Ducks, as the officials step in to prevent a fight from occurring again. Second time tonight. Little strange.
16:04 – First 5-on-5 look of the night
14:34 – Anaheim’s turn on the PP, 5-on-4. Clarke is whistled for tripping early in the second period.
14:20 – LAK Goal – Shortie! Kempe and Kopitar go the other way, 2-on-1, and execute to perfection. Kempe carries down the left wing and feeds Kopitar through the slot, with the captain one-timing his shot home for the goal and a 2-1 lead.
11:30 – Interesting line swap. Alex Laferriere centers a shift with Jeff Malott and Samuel Fagemo. To my knowledge, have not seen Laferriere play center in the NHL.
4:13 – Good shift from Adrian Kempe. Really nice threaded pass through the slot to Kopitar, who tried to pick the corner but his shot was sticked aside by Dostal.
0:00 – To the intermission we go, through 20 minutes, with the Kings leading 2-1.

First Period
20:00 – We are underway in Ontario, Kings and Ducks!
15:05 – That was…….weird. Doty and Smith nudge each other, both drop the gloves ready to fight. Officials separate, as if to let them go, and then jump back in between as they’re about to start punching. Strange. Two each for unsportsmanlike conduct.
14:22 – Kings will now get an extended 4-on-3 power play as Strome heads to the box for hooking. Four forwards for the Kings – Kempe, Kopitar, Laferriere, Fagemo.
13:53 – LAK Goal – The hosts strike first through Alex Laferriere. Adrian Kempe hammered a one-timer off a feed from Kopitar, with the rebound sitting in the crease for Laferriere to poke home for the first lead of the game. 1-0 Kings.
11:00 – An actual fight. Englund and Heatherington. Two big fellas.
8:21 – Good look for Fagemo down the right wing. Created just a little bit of space, got a shot off from the right-hand circle and Dostal makes the stop from the tight angle.
7:12 – Ducks power play coming up. Kempe for slashing and we’ll get the first look at the LAK PK.
6:16 – ANA Goal – Sam Colangelo evens the score with a power-play goal of his own. Faked the pass, kept it for the shot and finishes underneath the crossbar, top shelf. 1-1.
0:00 – That’s 20 in the books. Kings 1, Ducks 1. One of those periods where you feel like a lot happened, but really, not very much happened.
