Day 9 Camp Primer – Two Personnel Changes, Last Practice Before Quebec + Hiller on 32 Thoughts

Today is the final day of training camp, California edition.

The Kings are on the ice today in El Segundo, once again split up into two groups, with Group A once again leaning towards an NHL mix. In terms of today’s personnel, the Kings made two changes to the groups we saw yesterday. Defenseman Caleb Jones and forward Jack Studnicka have been moved into Group A, while forward Samuel Helenius and defenseman Joe Hicketts are now in Group B.

Today’s alignment is as follows –

Group A
Forwards (15) – Adrian Kempe, Tanner Jeannot, Anze Kopitar, Trevor Moore, Alex Laferriere, Alex Turcotte, Samuel Fagemo, Kevin Fiala, Phillip Danault, Akil Thomas, Warren Foegele, Andre Lee, Quinton Byfield, Trevor Lewis, Jack Studnicka

Defensemen (8) – Andreas Englund, Joel Edmundson, Kyle Burroughs, Jordan Spence, Caleb Jones, Mikey Anderson, Vladislav Gavrikov, Brandt Clarke

Goaltenders (2) – David Rittich, Darcy Kuemper

Group B
Forwards (18) – Tyler Madden, Jeff Malott, Martin Chromiak, Jacob Doty, Quinn Olson, Jack Studnicka, Charles Hudon, Glenn Gawdin, Shawn Element, Patrick Moynihan, Jake Wise, Bryce Brodzinski, Francesco Pinelli, Aatu Jamsen, John Parker-Jones, Kaleb Lawrence, Koehn Ziemmer, Taylor Ward

Defensemen (9) – Jacob Moverare, Luke Rowe, Jack Millar, Jakub Dvorak, Reilly Walsh, Parker Berge, Dru Krebs, Angus Booth, Caleb Jones

Goaltenders (3) – Erik Portillo, Pheonix Copley, Dryden McKay

Not skating today are the same three players who did not skate yesterday – Drew Doughty, Arthur Kaliyev and Cole Krygier.

With Doughty, we should get a formal designation today after practice from Head Coach Jim Hiller. Doughty underwent additional imaging and testing yesterday afternoon, with external reports this morning suggesting perhaps a bit of hope with regards to what the injury is, formally. If it is indeed a fractured ankle, and nothing more, it’s still a big injury naturally, but it could have been worse. See what comes from today, when we should have a better idea of what that means and how the Kings need to script the plan moving forward in Doughty’s absence.

Short primer today but for good reason! Excited to share a special interview on All The Kings Men next week with a couple of very cool guests. Recorded this morning and excited to release that here in due time.

Sharing Jim Hiller’s interview on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, live from Los Angeles, with Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukauskas.
