Final Score: Kings 0, Golden Knights 2

Third Period Notes
20:00 – Carter George is now in net. Portillo was really strong in his 40 minutes, as he stopped 10 of the 11 shots he faced during his time on the ice.
19:23 – Brandt Clarke with a silky-smooth move down the left side as he activates offensively from the point. Gets his way to the net and gets a low shot on goal, with a rebound that was dangerous but cleared.
14:00 – George solid on his first action of the night. Nothing wild, but a dependable stick save, plus another in traffic.
10:00 – Pinelli has turned it on during the second and third periods. Have really liked what he’s brought through the middle of the ice. Play driving and tenacious in the offensive zone. Things you want to see in his game that are showing up.
8:04 – Golden Knights score, but the goal is disallowed due to an apparent kicking motion.
6:02 – Parker-Jones takes his second minor of the game and is…..less than thrilled. One beauty of this event is hearing just about everything on the ice, though you didn’t need to hear it to understand his displeasure.
4:16 – VGK Goal – Second power-play goal of the game for the visitors. Bowman with a nice individual effort off the rush, deking back to the forehand and slotting top shelf for the 2-0 advantage.
3:14 – Carter George is on the bench and the Kings have the goaltender pulled for the extra attacker.
0:20 – Kings with a ton of looks 6-on-5 but no dice.
0:00 – FINAL: Kings 0, Golden Knights 2

Second Period Notes –
20:00 – Second period is a go. Kings will begin the period on the PK, after Lawrence’s penalty late in the first.
18:00 – Kings get the kill and return to even strength.
17:05 – Thought Pinelli had his best shift of the game coming off the PK. Worked his way down the left-hand wall with authority and possession. Liked that from him.
14:13 – Best chance of the game for LAK. Ziemmer and Greentree wheel it the other way after a Vegas shot off the rush missed the net. The pair go in 2-on-1, Ziemmer keeps it himself and dances around the defenseman but his shot on the short side is denied. Good play by 89.
9:02 – Greentree makes something out of nothing. Won faceoff, works his way down the left wing and makes space for himself to get a wrister off the rush. Tested the goaltender from distance midway through the second.
4:31 – Ziemmer dangerous again, as he works his way down the left wing and gets a shot off in transition, but it’s deflected out of play. Ziemmer has been noticeable all period, especially in the offensive end.
0:00 – After 40 minutes, it’s Kings 0, Golden Knights 1.

First Period Notes –
20:00 – Kings and Golden Knights are underway to begin the 2024 Rookie Faceoff!
16:16 – Greentree active in moving the puck through the neutral zone. Connected once with Ziemmer in transition to gain the red line, narrowly missed as he attempted to spring him down the right wing later in the shift. Good start for the big man.
13:05 – Portillo with a terrific breakaway save after the Kings turn the puck over at the offensive blueline. Portillo is seasoned for this level and looks commanding between the pipes against younger players. Followed the deke well and made the save look easier than it was.
9:41 – Kings take the first penalty of the game. Parker-Jones for cross checking in the offensive zone. Was probably too-many men against Vegas with the goalie not getting off before the guy coming off the bench played the puck. But also, it’s a rookie tournament. VGK PP.
8:28 – 5-on-3 power play for the Golden Knights. Kings send the puck the length of the ice, but over the upper netting. Rowe to the box. Pinelli – Clarke – Dvorak are the three for the Kings.
7:51 – VGK Goal – Golden Knights open the scoring. Brabenec leads the line for the visitors, who capitalize 5-on-3. Will still have 1:23 remaining of PP time, with a 1-0 lead.
5:21 – Kings get their first power play of the game. Second unit gets the power play started. Top unit is Clarke/Greentree/Pinelli/Ziemmer/Jamsen, although they start on the bench.
2:59 – Liked the shift from Jamsen after the PP. Tricky release to get a shot through a screen and on net. Probably the best look of the period for the Kings. Then, played the body below the goal line to force a turnover and extend the possession in the offensive zone.
0:11 – Massive hit by Mayer on Angus Booth along the boards. Kaleb Lawrence steps in and the two drop the gloves along the boards. Lawrence gets the extra two for instigation.
0:00 – After 20 minutes, it’s Kings 0, Golden Knights 1.
