Rookie game: Coyotes 8, Kings 7 (Final)

Here’s how the scoring went for tonight’s rookie game between the Kings and Phoenix Coyotes…

FIRST PERIOD
Phoenix 1, Kings 0:
Evan Bloodoff beat Martin Jones from the right circle at the 1:11 mark. Assist to Colin Long.
Kings 1, Phoenix 1: Brandon Kozun scored a power-play goal on the Kings’ first attempt with the man advantage, off an offensive-zone faceoff win. Assists to Linden Vey and Jake Muzzin, 8:51 into the period.
Kings 2, Phoenix 1: Andy Andreoff scored on a wraparound, 11:09 into the period. Assists to Jake Muzzin and Michael Schumacher. Right after the ensuing faceoff, Andreoff fought Harrison Ruopp.
Kings 2, Phoenix 2: The Coyotes tied the game with a power-play goal at the 17:20 mark. Lucas Lessio shot through traffic from the right circle and the puck deflected off the post and went in. Chris Summers got an assist.
Kings 3: Phoenix 2: Just 17 seconds after Phoenix tied the game, the Kings took the lead back. Tyler Toffoli’s breakaway chance was stopped by goalie Mark Vistenin, but Jordan Weal picked up the rebound and scored from close range. Ray Kaunisto also got an assist at the 17:37 mark.
End of first: The Kings went 1-for-1 on the power play and Phoenix went 1-for-3. The Coyotes will be on the power play for the first 1:46 of the second period. Shots were 21-17 in favor of the Coyotes in the first period.

SECOND PERIOD
Kings 4, Phoenix 2: Robert Czarnik scored a shorthanded goal 1:03 into the second period, unassisted, after a Phoenix offensive-zone turnover.
Kings 5, Phoenix 2: Andy Andreoff’s second goal of the game gave the Kings a three-goal lead 7:17 into the second period. Michael Schumacher and Rob Mignardi got assists, and the game was delayed by a broken glass pane in the corner.
Kings 5, Phoenix 3: Evan Bloodoff scored a shorthanded goal 10:10 into the second period, his second goal of the game. Bloodoff carried the puck into the Kings’ zone, pulled up at the right circle and whipped a wrist shot past Jones. Colin Long picked up an assist.
Kings 6, Phoenix 3: Brandon Kozun was credited with the 5-on-3 goal after a Kings offensive-zone faceoff win and a close-range wrist shot. It was Kozun’s second goal of the game, at 11:36, with an assist to Nicolas Deslauriers.
End of second: Things got messy in the second, as there was a fight, a 10-minute misconduct and 11 minor penalties, including a trip by Coyotes goalie Mark Visentin. Each team scored a shorthanded goal and the Kings scored a 5-on-3 goal. Through two periods, shots are 35-32 in favor of the Kings, with Martin Jones totaling 29 saves.

THIRD PERIOD
Kings 6, Phoenix 4: Chris Gibson started the third period in goal for the Kings and got beat by the first shot he faced, a medium-range wrist shot by Darian Dziurzynski 18 seconds into the period. Michael Stone and Chris Summers got assists.
Kings 6, Phoenix 5: The Coyotes, already on the power play, scored on a delayed-penalty situation 6:41 into the period, as Andy Miele scored on a short wrist shot from the high slot, unassisted.
Kings 6, Phoenix 6: The Coyotes’ third goal of the period came 7:20 in, on the power play, and tied the game. Brendan Shinnimin scored the power-play goal, with assists to Colin Long and goalie Marc Cheverie.
Phoenix 7, Kings 6: A fourth consecutive goal gave the Coyotes the lead 10:07 into the period. A rebound stayed in the crease and, after a scramble, Brett Hextall knocked the loose puck past Gibson. Darian Dziurzynski got an assist.
Phoenix 8, Kings 6: Gibson’s tough period continued as Brett Hextall scored his second goal of the period, on the power play, with an assist from Andy Miele at the 13:59 mark.
Phoenix 8, Kings 7: The Kings capped the scoring with 2.8 seconds remaining, when Ray Kaunisto tapped in a beautiful cross-ice pass from Brandon Kozun at close range.
