The second day of the NHL Draft will get underway at 8 a.m. Pacific time, and the Kings enter the day holding one pick in each of the rounds: second (49th overall), third (80th), fourth (110th), fifth (140th), sixth (170th) and seventh (200th). Of course, that could change depending on this status of this Ryan Smyth/Gilbert Brule mess. Latest reports have the trade, which included a mid-round draft pick and was agreed to last night, being held up because of possible issues about Brule’s health. Brule missed time late last season because of a concussion and has had other injuries. TSN’s Bob McKenzie even theorized, this morning, that Calgary could get back in the game for Smyth, since clearly the trade has not yet been filed with the league. Wouldn’t that be an amazing twist in the Calgary/Edmonton rivalry?
Stay tuned throughout the morning…I’ll be posting info, as soon as possible, on all the Kings’ draft picks. For a regularly updated draft tracker, you can click here. The draft is being televised on the NHL Network, and there is a live stream on NHL.com.
