Getting the second-line band back together

It’s time for the Smyth-Stoll-Williams reunion tour. In reality, the line of Ryan Smyth, Jarret Stoll and Justin Williams wasn’t broken up for very long, but the addition of Dustin Penner to the roster forced some mild line shuffling and, as part of that, Terry Murray reunited the second line that has been together for most of the season and, for the most part, has been the Kings’ most consistent. Murray broke up the line at the end of the Kings’ run of 10 consecutive road games, putting Dustin Brown with Smyth and Stoll, but now will go back to the look he has used for most of the season. Smyth and Williams are tied for third on the Kings with 20 goals, and Stoll has 17 goals.

MURRAY: “They were really good before we left on that road trip. They put up a lot of points. All three of them were playing at the top of their games. When we got onto the road trip, there was some stuff happening. The matchups started to kick in, against top defensemen. There are a lot of things that take place when you play that many games on the road. So there was a need for a change, to get away from each other and hopefully to refresh, and now, at a critical time of year, it’s time for them to get back together.”
