Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on getting rewarded for a strong defensive game…)
MUURAY: “That was the mindset that we needed to go into this game with, a good checking mindset. (The Penguins) can make a lot of good things happen. It’s incredible. They’ve got so much confidence going right now, especially with their road game, that every time we mis-managed the puck through the middle of the ice, they had something coming back. A couple times they scored, but other times Quicker made some great saves. Overall, the team played well on the defensive part of it.”

MURRAY: “We talked a couple times in the game, in the first-period and second-period intermissions, about needing more of a sustained kind of attitude. There were shifts that we were very good. We made the right decisions getting it in, we were able to cycle the puck. Then we came back out, two or three shifts later, and we were trying to get a little cute, a little fancy, trying to do something special as we crossed the offensive blue line. I thought, in the third period, we finally got all of our people on board and everybody was doing the right stuff.”

MURRAY: “I’m going to say no. They’re a premier team. They’re the Stanley Cup champions. You need your top players to respond and play well against the premier teams in the game. But I’d like to think that we also respect every other team, and give our best effort.”

MURRAY: “He made some tremenous saves. That one in the first and one in the second, they were as good as you could possibly ask on lateral plays. The one on Guerin, I think, in the first period, it was just a skilled play. It’s a reaction play on his part, and that just shows the talent he has.”

(on whether he’s sure it’s not a “measuring-stick” game…)
MURRAY: “No, I don’t like to do that. I’m well aware of Pittsburgh. I’ve seen them a lot, coming from the East myself. They’ve got Gonchar out, Malkin, one of the premier players in the game, Talbot is out, Kennedy’s out. They’ve got a bunch of injuries, but you still have to play the game. I’m sure they’re not going to throw that out as a reason either. They came to play and so did we, and I really like what we did in that third period.”

MURRAY: “They played well. They did a great job. Boy, on that delayed penalty, what a play Stoll made. That might be his best read that I’ve seen this year. He made a great pass. But the line dug in. They played intense, they played hard, they managed the puck well, they took the puck to the net on a consistent basis and put a lot of pucks to the net, looking for rebounds too. It was a great attitude by them all night.”
