Loktionov on standby

I’ve been able to confirm that there has been a “transfer” of forward Andrei Loktionov from Manchester of the AHL to Ontario of the ECHL. It really has nothing to do with either of those teams. It just means the Kings want Loktionov close by in case they need to call him up and have him play tomorrow, which is a possibility. With Wayne Simmonds out of the lineup, the Kings did not have any spare (natural) forwards, and Ryan Smyth went down today in practice, although I’m told Loktionov’s move has more to do with Simmonds’ status than Smyth’s status. So we’ll see what happens tomorrow morning. Loktionov has 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists) in 31 games with Manchester this season. If nothing else, he gets out of the Manchester winter — it was 37 degrees and snowy today — for a couple days. Credit to J.P. Hoornstra, my former L.A.
