The view from Nashville

Here’s how last night’s Kings-Predators game was presented by The Tennessean, with a game story and a notebook, followed by some additional postgame quotes from the Predators’ locker room…

Marek Svatos scores first goal

COACH BARRY TROTZ

(on the game…) “I think getting that goal on that first power play helped. We got it and it was 2-1 and it gave us some light. I thought after we scored that goal we were really good. We played last night, we played real hard and today I thought we played with a lot of character. We wanted to get off to a good start. They had beaten us in the first 10 minutes in the first two games, they jumped all over us, and had us on a back-to-back at home, and then here they jumped on us real early. I thought we played a real solid game and they were having a real good run at home. I didn’t like the way they beat us the last two times and the guys were pretty determined to get a win tonight.

“I think after back-to-backs and then having some people down a little bit early, everything from injuries to equipment problems, we were sort of piecing it together. I thought we recovered really well, we showed a lot of character and stayed with the game plan all night.”

PATRIC HORNQVIST

(on the game…) “We played pretty good. We got the pucks deep, we got the cycle going and of course we got some lucky goals, two to bounce our way. We try to always have two guys at the net and it works pretty well. We got some goals and everybody has good confidence and you can see it out there.”

(on his play in front of the net…) “I always try to be in front and sometimes you get a little lucky in there. It’s one of those times it felt like all the pucks were going to my stick, and I like it. I’m going to keep going there and hopefully score some more goals.”

MAREK SVATOS

(on the game…) “It was a huge game for us and I think that the team came out strong today and we deserve those two points. I think the key was that we stuck to our game plan. We keep forechecking like we wanted at the beginning of the game and it paid off in the end. Our power play was great tonight and also the penalty kills were a great team effort and it was a huge win for our team.”

(on the play of Collin Wilson…) “He made some great plays on the power play and the five-on-five. He’s red hot right now and every team needs a player like that. Hopefully he can continue and scoring more goals for us.”
