Score: Los Angeles 1, Anaheim 1

Third Period
20:00 – Last dance for the 2024 Rookie Faceoff.
16:31 – Bryce Brodzinski gets two whacks at it from close range but can’t get it to go. Right outside of the crease, puck squirts out and just behind the net.
15:57 – Couple of saves without a rebound for Erik Portillo early in the third.
15:19 – Anaheim gets a penalty shot after Jamsen trips Hinds on a breakaway, which came after he lost the puck at the blueline. Portillo stands up with a big pad save, though, to keep the game 1-0.
15:04 – Kings to the penalty kill after Jamsen’s clearing attempt evades the glass and goes out of play. Delay of game is the call, Anaheim PP.
14:54 – Immediate penalty against the Ducks and it’ll be 1:50 of 4-on-4 time.
13:03 – Save of the game goes to McIvor in the Anaheim net. Sprawls across to rob Pinelli off a great pass through the slot from Liam Greentree. Good shift by both players, should’ve been 2-0.
11:52 – Chance to extend the lead for the Kings with a power play midway through the third period.
9:52 – Brodzinski to Lawrence on a shot pass is the best look the Kings get on their power play. Lawrence used the big body to get in tight and nearly redirected home an insurance goal. Back to even strength, as we pass the halfway point of the third period.
7:32 – Koehn Ziemmer gets a penalty shot now for the Kings but he’s denied as he pulls to the forehand and tries to go inside the far post. Still 1-0.
6:59 – Anaheim now to the power play late in the third period.
5:28 – ANA Goal – Pitre ties the game with a power-play goal. Walks off the left-hand wall and picks his corner to beat Portillo and tie the game at one goal apiece.
4:30 – Kings have the puck in the net, looked like Parker-Jones with a deflection on a Brandt Clarke shot from the right point, but it’s waived off. Can’t really see exactly why, but we’ll play on tied at one.
3:46 – Another penalty. Parker-Jones in the offensive zone. Kings to the PK late in the third period.
1:46 – Kings work through the Parker-Jones penalty and get the kill. 1-1, inside two minutes to play in regulation.

Second Period
20:00 – Back underway in period two, in search of the game’s first goal.
18:28 – Aatu Jamsen continues to make plays when he has the puck on his stick. Finds Dvorak activating from the point for one of the better looks the Kings have had. 74 likely responsible for the best three chances the Kings have had.
16:44 – Carter George. Nasty. Very impressive glove save early in the period and a post-to-post slide to deny a chance in tight. Has certainly been the best player in a Kings jersey.
15:14 – LAK Goal – Pinelli gets the Kings on the board. Good work by Cole Krygier to gain the zone by driving down the left wing. Took it in low, feed Pinelli in the slot and it’s 1-0 Kings. First of the tournament for 73.
13:28 – Second fight of the game. Vaughan for the Kings, Wiebe for the Ducks. Vaughan took a few big blows but hung in there and eventually spun the Anaheim forward to the ground.
12:34 – Another good pass by Jamsen. Greentree’s shot got between the legs of the Anaheim netminder, but kicked off the inside of the pad and through the crease, out of harm’s way. If we’re evaluating purely on plays made with the puck, Jamsen would lead in that area.
9:13 – Carter George, post-to-post. Again. Just so calm in net, regardles of the situation.
8:17 – Kings make a goaltending swap, with Erik Portillo entering the game in place of George. Strong showing from number 40 and Portillo will bring it home to end the tournament.
5:10 – Kings will get their first power play of the game as Hinds goes to the box for hauling down Krygier. Clarke/Pinelli/Greentree/Jamsen/Ziemmer is the top unit today.
3:10 – Worked it around alright to set up 3-4 one-timers, though not really from the most dangerous areas on the ice. Jamsen, Pinelli and Ziemmer each had attempts, plus Greentree on a drag and shoot.
2:27 – Late penalty for the Kings, as Dvorak sits.
0:27 – Kings back to even strength after another kill.
0:00 – 1-0 LAK after 40 minutes. One more period to play in El Segundo!

First Period
20:00 – The final game of the 2024 Rookie Faceoff is underway, with the Kings against the Ducks.
19:04 – Good little burst from Francesco Pinelli up the middle to nearly generate a breakaway. After the first period of Game 1, which was a slog for the team as a whole, Pinelli has impressed. Like to see him control this game here today.
17:12 – Carter George is a known puck-handling goaltender. Got a good glimpse into that early. Hit Brandt Clarke with a firm stretch pass, from goal line to red line, which Clarke quickly chipped the other way. Big part of George’s game, looked pretty good there.
12:59 – Kings take the game’s first penalty, as Vaughan sits for the hosts. Early in the PK, Aatu Jamsen gets a shorthanded breakaway. Collected and used his time/space but was denied on a deke to the backhand.
10:59 – Kings get the kill. Jamsen’s breakaway the best chance of the two minutes and his team had the four players. Good kill overall, George really tested just once.
5:43 – Carter George with a good save and smother through traffic to hold on for a whistle. So far, so good. Hasn’t been wildly tested, but has had the answer for what was thrown at him.
1:03 – Parker-Jones and Smith drop the gloves at center ice late in the first period. Parker-Jones knows his game and he’s played to it. AHL contract with Ontario, profiles as both a forward and a defenseman.
0:00 – After one, zeroes on both ends.

That Friday must have been a doozie.

  • Is the video choppy for anyone else or is it just me?

  • yep, choppy

  • yep, choppy

  • Those orange pants are UGLY.

  • this stream is unwatchable

  • Choppy , I just turned it off

  • Seriously people it's 2024. This looks like streaming from 2015.

  • John Hoven tweeted that Kaliyev is signing a 1 year contract.

  • Good for Kaliyev but Fagemo will be a Blue Jacket before long…I think only 13 forwards make the team

  • George: "Are you guys going to show up in the 2nd?"

  • Extremely.

  • In watching that period, Clarke's skating has noticeably improved. He's stronger, smoother, and a bit quicker than last season.

Booth seems to have a good feel for the game. He's usually in position to make the right play and lets the game come to him. Doesn't chase the puck.

  • Who will retired first, Sid or Kopi? Both 2005 picks, and looking retrospectively are #1 and #2 overall.

  • I'll be surprised if Kopi doesn't retire after two more seasons.

  • Booth caught my attention. I like him.

  • With the stream, I think that Anaheim had the edge in play; may have had the edge in what appeared to be a scrap.

  • Ice packs on those bruised ribs.

  • So maybe both will retire at the same time?

  • IDK what Crosby is thinking. It's possible.

  • Combatants patted each other on the shoulder afterward, so no hard feelings.

  • Even though the Penguins are trending downwards, I could see Crosby playing into his 40's if he wanted to. Regarding Kopitar, I heard he wanted to go back to Slovenia after his contract is up.

  • Just tuning in. Is there not any sound?

  • I don't have any audio now.

  • In the KHL?

  • Unobstructed camera angle with clear picture to tease us once in a while, who’s in charge of this production

  • Lol Black Dog Hockey.

Attempting to figure out audio is my guess

  • Finally, get that distraction out of the way and may the best players win a roster spot.

  • Audio not working for the stream? Was fine in the 1st period

  • Same here. Audio missing now

  • LOL! Now audio and no video.

  • and it's back.

  • Finally have sound. And now finally scored

  • Such bush league streaming. Of all places you'd think Hollywood has the technology.

  • Man, Greentree's gotta shoot that sooner. Took 2 seconds to dust off the pass instead of getting it off quick.

  • That was my reaction too. Maybe he was trying to go against the grain and needed the goalie to move more?

  • Kings hire Wagner as their odd-man rush coach?

  • Definitely hard to catch and shoot when it's not the one-timer side. But it's a skill that can be worked on.

  • Great game from George. He moves really well, love watching his details

  • George came, George conquered.

  • Doesn't seem to scramble.

  • Holy Portillo

  • Jamsen looks to be another small player with little to no finish ……I've seen this movie too many times…..

  • I was thinking the same thing.

  • Ziemmer is smaller than I thought. He looks about 5'11 tops. Wondering how that's going to look at the NHL level considering the game he tries to play?

Both Dvorak and Wooley made some bad reads at the defensive blueline.

Kings goalies haven't been challenged often in this game, but both have been solid when necessary.

  • @Use who knows the Finnish players isn't especially high on Jamsen.

  • I'm with him on that……
the Kings were either high of desperate to take him……..

  • Gotta end this thing with a bang.

  • He's been streaky, but at times, pretty good in Finland, I believe. @Use doesn't think he has that much upside.

  • Saw him at camp last year…..
not a big guy, and skating needs a lot of work although at times he has shown some straight line speed……

  • He seems to want to play like a power forward but lacks size. I'm not seeing the hands so far, however, it's early days so far with him. He might improve in a year or two.

  • 7TH rounder so odds of him making are not great, plus he's 22 years old and weighs less than 160lbs

  • Portillo has been shutting the door on several grade A's. Looking very solid and confident

  • Nice win

  • Jamsen, denied on the breakaway!

  • Portillo not only looks calm, he’s a big boy and covers a lot of net.
