Kevin Fiala talks All-Star experience + Photos & Videos from the weekend in Florida

The FialAll-Star!

A terrific weekend for Kings forward Kevin Fiala, who participated in his first-ever NHL All-Star game in Florida on Friday and Saturday.

Though there was some confusion – and some conflicting marketing materials! – on Fiala’s inclusion in the Skills Competition, he wound up as one of six participating competitors in the Fastest Skater competition, as he placed second of six to advance to the final round versus Carolina’s Andrei Svechnikov. Fiala became the second Kings player in as many years to finish second in the event, with both he (13.9) and Adrian Kempe (13.5) posting sub-14 second times in the event over the last two seasons.

In the game on Saturday, Fiala was a part of the Pacific Division squad that lost 6-4 in the semifinals versus the Central Division. Fiala collected assists on two of his team’s four goals, including the primary helper on Elias Pettersson’s goal on the second half, a nice stretch pass to the Vancouver centerman.

A great weekend overall for Fiala, with the best of his time at the event – in quotes, photos and video – shown below!

From the man himself –

On the event here as a whole and his enjoyment of it
It was so much fun, just to hang out with the boys, sit in there talking, watching the competition, the guys are so good. I’m just trying to enjoy it as much as possible. Trying to get to know the guys a little bit more, you play against them, and I’m just trying to enjoy it.

On how his experience went based on his expectations coming in
I was a little bit nervous, everything was new, but I just tried to enjoy it as much as possible. I tried to ask some guys who had been here before how it is, how the vibe is going to be and it was even better than I expected.

On what it meant to him to be honored as an All Star
It means a lot, I feel honored. Representing the LA Kings and also Switzerland, it’s a small country and it feels great. I always dreamed about this, to be an All Star and now that it’s happening, I’m very happy about it.

On following Adrian Kempe finishing second in fastest skater and if there’s a race coming back in Los Angeles
No, no, that’s enough for me [laughs]. I’m happy with second place and I know that Juice was way, way faster than me so he can have it.

A great experience for Fiala, who will now have a couple of days off here to get his rest and relaxation in. The Kings are off as a group until February 9, where they’ll get the first of two practices in before hostin Pittsburgh on Saturday evening at home. Until then, a little bit of prospects, a little bit of Ontario Reign and a whole lotta Dustin Brown!
