Adrian Kempe was injured late in the first period of the LA Kings’ 7-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche Wednesday night when he collided with a forechecking Matt Nieto as the Avalanche forward tried to pressure him shortly after Kempe had issued a pass up-ice. Midway through the second period, a Kings representative shared that it was a lower-body injury and that he was not expected to return.
His final shift came with roughly five minutes to play in the first period.

Injury timetables are rarely shared immediately after games, and while Willie Desjardins didn’t have a clear sense of the timeframe, he struck an optimistic tone that it wouldn’t be too long.
“I’m not sure. I’m hoping it’s not long,” he said. “I don’t think it’s going to be long, but you can’t tell until the next morning exactly how it goes overnight, so we’ll have to wait to see.”
The Kings are already without goalies Jonathan Quick (knee surgery) and Jack Campbell (knee surgery) and forwards Trevor Lewis (foot fracture) and Jonny Brodzinski (shoulder surgery). Quick is on LTIR, while Campbell and Brodzinski are on IR. Kempe is a center, so if the Kings would like to recall a center from AHL-Ontario, Michael Amadio would be a prime candidate to rejoin the team. Amadio had been assigned to the Reign Wednesday morning and registered four shots on goal in Ontario’s come-from-behind 4-3 win at San Diego. He has one goal in 13 games with the Kings and three assists in two games with the Reign.
In 21 games this season, Kempe has two goals and five points.
Los Angeles is off Thursday and will return to Toyota Sports Center for a 10:00 a.m. practice on Friday, November 23.
