POSTGAME NOTES
–The Reign dropped to 24-11-8-0 on the season as the Gulls improved to 25-13-2-2. The Reign (.651 winning percentage) remain in second place in the Pacific Division behind San Jose (.675) with San Diego (.643) in third.
–The Reign were held to one goal or less for the 7th time this season and have just one goal in the last two meetings against the Gulls and goalie Jhonas Enroth. Ontario is now 4-3-1-0 against the Gulls this season and has lost in each the last three meetings.
–Jonny Brodzinski was the Reign’s lone goal scorer and added to his team lead with 18 goals.
–Tom Gilbert had the primary assist on Brodzinski’s goal for his first point as a member of the Reign in his fourth game.
–Goalie Jack Campbell started his 28th straight game and made 34 saves, the fifth-most he’s had to make this season in his 34th game. His record dropped to 21-8-5.
–Ontario was outshot by the Gulls, 38-27, and 18-10 in the third period alone. Sam Herr led the Reign and tied for a game-high with four shots on goal.
IN-GAME NOTES
–Jonny Brodzinski exited the at the 10:38 mark of the second period, but returned to start the third. The Reign’s leading goal scorer was bringing the puck into the offensive zone up the left side and as he curled toward the boards he was hit hard by Ryan Garbutt. Brett Sutter immediately came to Brodzinski’s defense to fight Garbutt. Garbutt received a boarding minor for the play and a fighting major while Sutter received an instigating minor, a fighting major and then it was later announced he received a 10-minute misconduct for instigating. –In net the matchup will be a familiar one as Jack Campbell (21-7-5; 2.64 GAA, .909 SV%) will make his 28th straight start and face Jhonas Enroth (10-2-0; 1.67 GAA, .939 SV%).
