February 9 postgame quotes: Carter, Pearson

Jeff Carter, on the importance of the win headed in to the break:
Well we just needed to win. It’s been a long stretch of road games for us. We obviously weren’t happy with the last two games and we had a good off-day yesterday, got to recharge and we knew we needed two points and nothing else tonight so it was a good job by everybody.

Carter, on the Kings scoring six goals:
It’s nice. We don’t get it too often. We’re typically a pretty low-scoring, tight checking team so it’s nice to see the guys get rewarded. The last couple games we got handed to us pretty good but we still had a lot changes, just weren’t able to bury them, so it was nice to see them going in to the net.

Carter, on whether winning the last game before the break is a “confidence booster”:
I hope it is, but we’ll see. Ask me in 5 days.

Carter, on whether Brown’s “flukey” goal was what the Kings needed to get going offensively:
What was his? What was Brownie’s goal? [Reporter: The one from behind the net, the first goal.] Oh that was a great shot. That’s a great shot. No?

Carter, on whether being one behind Sidney Crosby in goals scored this season:
I don’t know. I’m happy that they’re going in the net and I’m happy I’m helping the team out.

Carter, on what he noticed about Doughty’s game against the Panthers:
Drew, he was Drew. I mean, that’s what we see every game. He’s chasing down pucks, he’s making plays, he’s poised with it, he’s blocking pucks on the PK, he does it all. He was Drew.

Tanner Pearson, on the importance of the win headed in to the break:
I think it was pretty big. Obviously the last two games didn’t go really as planned but I think tonight puts us back in the playoff spot so that was kind of one of our goals before this break was to be in a playoff spot and we accomplished that. We’ve got a nice little break here.

Pearson, on the Kings scoring six goals:
Yeah I think everything’s there it’s just the last couple games, like you said, we couldn’t score and then when you lose 5-0 twice in a row kind of gives you a kick in the butt and, you know, when we give ourselves the first goal, I think we’re pretty comfortable playing with that lead.

Pearson, on whether winning the last game before the break gives the team confidence:
Yeah, it’s nice. It especially gives, you know, not too much think about going in to the break. Then again, when we go back I think we play Calgary in our first game. [Reporter: Arizona.] Arizona, so a division game and it’ll be a big game when we play them. We’ve got to keep climbing up the standings. [Reporter: A little confidence boost maybe?] Yeah, yeah I think it’s good for us especially with how the last couple games went. To score six tonight, obviously a couple late ones at the end, we want to clean that up a bit but other than that we played all around a good game.

Pearson, on hitting a career high in goals scored:
Yeah, I don’t know, I think there’s more consistency there. I think that was a big thing. And generating more shots. I was never really a high shot count kind of guy. I think if you look at maybe from last year 55th game in to this year I probably have more shots so I think that’s one of the things, you’ve got to shoot more and even if you don’t score you obviously create stuff.
