Good morning, Washington, D.C., and good morning, Insiders.
I feel there’s ample opportunity for a prime Good Morning post in our nation’s capital today, but sadly, it’s a quick turnaround on a show-and-go morning, and I still have most of a WUWTK to write, so this will be relatively short. The Kings traveled by rail, swapping stories for sponge baths, en route from 30th St. Station in Philadelphia to Union Station in Washington. The trip, which took just over an hour and a half, afforded views of those legendary Delaware sunsets and the opportunity to quote lines from The Wire while passing through Baltimore. (There are no Wire clips embedded here, because it is hard to find memorable scenes that do not use Bad Words or feature Heavy Use Of Guns. But if you’ve never seen an episode from the series, start today.)
It’s a quick turnaround on Super Bowl Sunday, a day in which the Kings and Capitals play the only NHL game one of three NHL games before ceding the remainder of the day to the Pats and Falcons and the hype and accoutrements that come with the biggest sports day of the entire year. I have no real rooting interest in this game, but Tom Brady was the quarterback my freshman year at Michigan, when he led us to come-from-behind wins over Notre Dame, Penn State, Ohio State and in the Orange Bowl against Alabama, showing the same coolness in the games’ most dicey moments as has defined his legendary career.
Here are the Kings’ picks for the Super Bowl, courtesy of FOX Sports West:
Apparently the earth is angry with Dwight King’s indecision and has opened up to swallow him through a crevasse. He’s day-to-day.
It’s an early game day, Insiders. Pour yourself a cup of coffee and tune in to NBC – yes, actual NBC! – for coverage at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time, followed by a 9:20 a.m. puck drop. There’s plenty more to come from the Verizon Center, and make sure you follow Kings Men Podcast’s Jesse Cohen, who is also on this trip. Let’s talk soon.
