January 22 postgame quotes: Mike Stothers

On the game overall:
It was a weird game. [It] was hard to get a feel for it from the bench from either team. We always talk about the rivalry and the intensity of the games and it was almost like it was a Sunday afternoon and there was nothing at stake. At one point we were just kind of like, OK, whatever team wants it more or whatever is going to get the win. I don’t know. It was weird. [Reporter: Picked up a bit in the third though, didn’t you think, as far as the rivalry feel?] Yeah, I guess. But it still wasn’t what I was expecting. We cashed in quite a few goals last night, you think you’re going to start the game on that energy and feed off of it and think you’re gonna maybe get … but it wasn’t. It was a feeling out process. It’s just like a, I don’t know. I don’t know how to describe it. It was like a first date I guess. You don’t know what to say. You don’t want to say the wrong thing. If you’ve got food between your teeth you just keep going. You remember those days.

On his first impressions of Cam Schilling:
I liked him. I thought he looked good. He’s had a tough 24 hours. Just to get here today. I admire him. The first thing he said when he came in was he wanted to play, so that’s encouraging. There’s a good familiarity with LoVerde. There’s a comfort level there. The way the season’s gone and Trotman going down for us, we’ve needed a younger, mobile, yet veteran presence back there to help Vinny. It gives us some good depth. I think going here in the second half of the season, it’s exactly what you need.

On what he thought of Brodzinski’s move in the shootout:
Oh. Oh. We were just talking about that in there. Like here you think you’ve got Jonny and he’s like, bar down, bar down, or he just puts a laser right through the goalie. And then all of a sudden he pulled that move out. Ohh, man was that nice. That was the highlight of the night. [Reporter: Normally you hate the shootout, so it’s nice.] Oh, I still hate the shootout.
