January 7 postgame notes

-With the win, Los Angeles improved to 26-19-13 all-time against Minnesota, a record that includes a home mark of 14-9-6. The Wild have points in six straight games against Los Angeles (4-0-2) and 18 of the last 25 games against the Kings. Of those 25 games, 15 have been decided by a single goal. Los Angeles (1-1-0) and Minnesota (1-0-1) will conclude their season series on February 27 in St. Paul.

-The Kings improved to 12-9-2 against the Western Conference, 5-4-2 against the Central Division, 12-5-4 in one-goal games, 5-9-2 when trailing after one period, 6-2-2 when tied after two periods, 15-11-2 when outshooting their opponent, 7-1-0 on Saturdays (including 7-0-0 at home), 17-2-3 when any player registers a multi-point game, 9-4 in games that extend past 60 minutes and 8-1 in games decided in overtime.

-Tanner Pearson scored his second overtime game-winning goal of the season. Including playoffs, he has five career overtime game-winners (San Jose x2, New York Rangers, Nashville, Minnesota). Pearson has three goals against Minnesota to lead the season series.

-Since the implementation of 3-on-3 at the start of the 2015-16 season, Los Angeles is 20-4 in in games decided in overtime. The 20 goals lead second place Chicago (16 overtime goals), while the .833 winning percentage leads second place Calgary (.706 winning percentage).

-The Kings overcame a multi-goal deficit to win a game for the first time since March 17, 2016, when they trailed the New York Rangers 3-1 and won 4-3 in overtime.

-Dustin Brown appeared in his 922nd NHL game, surpassing Marcel Dionne for third on the Kings all-time games played list.

-Jeff Carter (1-2=3) scored his team-leading 22nd goal of the season. He ranks second behind Sidney Crosby (26 goals) but ahead of Patrick Laine and Auston Matthews (21 goals).

-With his first assist, Drew Doughty (0-2=2) surpassed Mark Hardy (250 assists) for second place on the Kings’ all-time list of assists by a defenseman.

-Anze Kopitar (0-1=1), who assisted on the game-winning goal, has one goal in his last 28 games and no goals and three assists in his last 12 games. His 15 assists lead Los Angeles forwards and are tied for the team lead with Alec Martinez. Kopitar played his 799th NHL game.

-Marian Gaborik’s goal ended a personal 11-game point-less drought.

-The Kings attempted 63 shots (36 on goal, 10 blocked, 17 missed). The Wild attempted 39 shots (24 on goal, 8 blocked, 7 missed). Nino Niederreiter, Drew Doughty, Marian Gaborik and Trevor Lewis tied with a game-high four shots on goal.

-Los Angeles won 34-of-60 faceoffs (57%). Anze Kopitar won 13-of-20, Nick Shore won 3-of-9, Trevor Lewis won 0-of-1, Nic Dowd won 3-of-6 and Jeff Carter won 15-of-24.

The Kings are scheduled to practice at 10:00 a.m. at Toyota Sports Center on Sunday, January 8.
