Dustin Brown suffered an upper-body injury late in the Kings’ 1-0 overtime win over Pittsburgh on Friday and did not play against Boston Sunday afternoon at TD Garden. The injury was a shoulder injury, according to a source, and was not expected to sideline the rugged forward for any extended length of time.
The official word from the team’s public relations staff was that Brown’s status was “day-to-day,” something Sutter indicated after the game.
“If it was a night game, maybe he plays tonight,” Sutter said.
Brown has been a player who has shown a remarkable ability to play through injuries. Because of his absence, his 207-game consecutive games played streak came to an end. The new team-leading consecutive games played streak is now held by Drew Doughty (195 consecutive games played), followed by Jake Muzzin (189) and Tyler Toffoli (148). The team record is 330, set by Anze Kopitar between March 21, 2007 and March 26, 2011.
Brown had played in all 82 games in five of the last six 82-game seasons and did not miss any games in the 48-game 2012-13 season due to injury.
Forward Marian Gaborik also did not play against the Bruins, though Gaborik took warm-ups. Sutter confirmed that Gaborik’s absence was due to a coach’s decision after the game.
In 30 games this season, Brown has four goals, 14 points and a minus-10 rating. Los Angeles’ seven-game pre-Christmas road trip continues with games against Columbus on Tuesday, Nashville on Thursday and Dallas on Friday. After a back-to-back set of games in Vancouver and Edmonton on November 28 and 29, the Kings return home to face San Jose on December 31.
