Good morning/afternoon from Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario. The Reign are back home again and this time for an extended stay, a five-game homestand. They’ll face Stockton on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. PT. It will be their first home game in the last two weeks.
–Winger Jonny Brodzinski was not as practice as he was home with family in Minnesota to attend a tribute for his grandmother who recently passed away. Head coach Mike Stothers said Brodzinski will be back later today. Michael Latta skated in Brodzinski’s spot on right wing on the line with center Adrian Kempe and left wing Michael Mersch.
–Practice was stopped numerous times by Stothers for some loud coaching of the stern variety. The word “details,” was stressed multiple times. In their 2-1 overtime loss on Friday in Stockton the Reign allowed a goal with five seconds left in the first period, a concern that was also addressed. “I think we’d like our record to probably be a little bit better than it has been,” said forward Brett Sutter. “We think there’s been a lot of games where we played well enough to win, but that being said, there’s a lot of things we’ve got to do better, just with the little detail of our game. Start winning Ontario-style games so to speak, those tight, one-goal games. We’ve had a lot of OT games and shootout games and stuff and those are the ones, even though it’s early in the year, you’ve got to find a way to get that extra point and I think that’s something we’re trying to address this week is the detail in our game to win those tight games.”
–Goalie Jack Campbell will get the start in net tomorrow against Stockton, Stothers said. Campbell made 32 saves in the overtime loss to the Heat last Friday. “He’s got some experience,” Stothers said of Campbell, who he’s apparently calling “Soupy.” “I think you can see it the other night in Stockton, even just playing the puck, setting it up for the D. … And Jack made some passes to our D, which helped immensely as far as us getting out of our end cleaner.”
–In other injury-related news, goalie Jonah Imoo practiced with the regulars as he returns from a lower-body injury suffered in late October. Defenseman Zach Trotman (upper-body) remains out and did not practice.
–Versatile veteran Paul Bissonnette continues to be an option on the blue line and was paired with Zac Leslie in practice. Alex Lintuniemi, a healthy scratch last Friday, was paired with Rob Scuderi.
–Spoke with Bissonnette, Sutter and T.J. Hensick about the tragic situation involving Roadrunners captain Craig Cunningham and will have a post on that later today. It’s also Tuesday, which means the Reign Report will go up as well as the All The Kings Men podcast.
