Good morning, Calgary

Good morning, Calgary, and Happy New Year, Insiders. May you and your loved ones be touched with happiness, health and comfort in 2016.

How are you celebrating the New Year? Are you still recovering from the Y2K world shutdown? We’re looking forward to potentially ringing in the New Year more than once tonight, just like TGI McScratchy’s Goodtime Foodrinkery, where it’s constantly New Year’s Eve. If it’s between 12:00 and 1:00 a.m. Mountain Time when we enter the Pacific Time Zone, we’ll go from 2016 to 2015, and then back to 2016 again. I experienced this boring phenomenon 14 years ago when flying home from Australia on the morning of January 1, when we crossed the International Date Line before we rang in 2002 for the second time somewhere above the Hawaiian Islands.

This is what our wild and crazy New Years celebration looked like on the plane two years ago:

Happy New Year from 35,000 feet!

The Kings had lost in Dallas that night, and for about eight seconds there were some noises and shouts coming from the back of the plane. And then I went back to my post-game notes. It was not a festive environment.

Los Angeles is looking to complete just the second 4-0-0 road trip in club history tonight (they do have one 5-0-0 trip) when they face the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome. There’s plenty more to come on a busy game day. Enjoy your New Years celebrations, Insiders. Let’s talk soon.
