-Good afternoon from El Segundo. There wasn’t much to report from today’s optional practice, which featured eight skaters and Jhonas Enroth. Derek Forbort and Matt Greene were the only defensemen to take part, which allowed former Flyer and Whaler John Stevens to assume a minor role in the odd drill.
-Derek Forbort felt good about his performance and said that he settled into a good rhythm after a few early nerves. He, too, was surprised by the second period tripping call he was assessed.
-Darryl Sutter gave an indication that Brayden McNabb should be fine after weathering a heavy Zach Parise shot shortly before Minnesota’s power play goal. McNabb, who wears plastic skate protectors, did not skate on Saturday.
-With Jonathan Quick aggressively moving the puck away from the crease during three-on-three overtime, a question was raised in a conversation with Sutter: Which goalie has the NHL record for most assists in one season? It’s Grant Fuhr, who recorded 14 assists in 45 games (!) in 1983-84. With 48 career assists, Tom Barrasso is the all-time assists leader amongst goalies.
-More to come shortly. Sutter quotes will follow.
