Alec Martinez, on the reasons behind the 0-3 start:
Not playing our game. We’re not making plays in the tough areas, we’re not working hard in the areas we need to in order to win hockey games. Special teams aren’t good enough. PK was better tonight, but power play, we’ve got to capitalize. We’re not doing much very good right now.
Martinez, on why there has been a stark drop-off in play:
I don’t know, but obviously something needs to change.
Martinez, on whether a “players meeting” needs to be held:
I think we have enough experience in this room where we know what needs to get done and how to win hockey games, and for whatever reason, we’re not doing it right now. Whether that be us having a meeting, I don’t think having a Kum-ba-ya is the issue. Everyone knows what we’re not doing, and we need to turn that around real quick. Three division games on a home stand, losing all three and scoring two goals is embarrassing.
Martinez, on not panicking:
I mean obviously don’t panic, but we’ve got to give ourselves a kick in the rear pretty damn quick here. We have to play with a sense of urgency, and we’re not doing that right now. The list goes on and on.
Anze Kopitar, on the offense:
We are not doing the things that we need to do to get quality chances. Whether that is not coming in with possession, or that is not recovering the puck the way we should, we are playing too soft to get the pucks back.”
Kopitar, on minimizing penalties:
You just play smart. In the second period, all of those penalties were results of being sloppy in the neutral zone. Myself included, we turned the puck over way too many times in the neutral zone, and when our legs get tired we start to grab and hook.”
