King: Broken bone in foot needed surgery; out 8-10 weeks

Darryl Sutter told reporters at the conclusion of today’s media availability that Dwight King will be out for an extended period of time. As was expected, it was confirmed that the injury is a broken bone in his foot. Surgery has already taken place – Sutter commented on King’s scar – and the prognosis is that the injury will keep the left wing out of the lineup for roughly 60 days. When he continued to speak about the injury, he refined the timeline to say that such injuries generally take 8-10 weeks to recover from.

King, 26, was injured while blocking a shot in the final preseason game against the Colorado Avalanche on October 3. It’s way too early to start projecting a return date, but an 8-10 week recovery period places a theoretical return around November 28 – December 12. The possession-driving forward has been durable in his Kings tenure and has only missed seven regular season games – one of which was due to personal reasons – over the last three seasons. He has played in all 64 of Los Angeles’ playoff games since 2012.

In 238 career games, King has 37 goals, 80 points and a plus-11 rating. He averaged 14:24 of ice time in 2014-15.
