October 9 morning skate quotes: Darryl Sutter

On whether “working down low” is where Brayden McNabb is looking to improve:
I think it was going back from last year. You have to move past that young player adjustment or that little window that you give him into full-time and all-the-time situation things.

On whether Jordan Weal will play:
He’s going to play. I mean, it’s part of what we talked about before camp as an organization. If you looked at it, we probably would’ve had 14 [forwards], and we’re going to have to find ways to get those guys all in based on performance and not staying out too long, and if somebody can get ahead of somebody else, then let ‘em run with it, that sort of thing. So that’s kind of where we’re at. It’s a good thing for all those guys. It’s competition. There’s probably four guys there that are going to have to play well to stay in the lineup, or even when they do, somebody else, we don’t want to leave ‘em out too long.

On where Weal has made significant strides from last season:
I think it’s just maturity and experience with him. A lot of times, when you’re a smaller stature player, ‘well, he’s not going to have the rough going,’ or ‘how can he play against bigger guys?,’ well, you have to be able to adjust and do it, or you can’t. I said it earlier – I think there were times during training camp games where he handled it really well, and there were other times where he didn’t use his speed and wasn’t being creative enough to avoid where you’re in an out-muscled situation. You have to be able to do it. You have to be able to get in and get out, and you have to be able to make plays that don’t put you in a position where you’re defending or backchecking.
