Three preseason games to feature 3-on-3 OT

The NHL announced this morning that 45 preseason games will feature the three-on-three overtime format that will be implemented this season, regardless of the score after three periods. Three Kings games will be included:

Monday, September 21
Arizona vs. KINGS (at Bakersfield)

Sunday, September 27
KINGS at Colorado

Tuesday, September 29
Anaheim at KINGS

The full list of preseason games that will feature three-on-three overtime can be accessed here. Even if the trailing team ties the game during three-on-three overtime, the game will not head to a shootout. The leading team prior to three-on-three overtime will still be credited with a win, regardless of what happens in the extra session.

All other preseason games will still feature three-on-three overtime, followed by a shootout, if necessary, if regulation ends in a tie.

Tuesday night’s rookie game against Arizona featured a three-on-three overtime demonstration, which resulted in a surplus of end-to-end rushes and high-quality chances at both ends.
