Based on communications with hockey operations, it appeared to be only a matter of time before a three-year entry level contract with 2014 first round draft pick Adrian Kempe was announced. Lo, today is that day.
2014 1st Round Pick Adrian Kempe Signed To Three-Year Entry-Level Contract
Kempe is slated to play for AHL-Ontario next season, so this late-season opportunity with Manchester will provide a very preliminary look of how his game translates to a top North American league. Kempe is still 18, so keep your expectations in check as he makes his Monarchs debut during the team’s three-in-three this weekend.
Selected 29th overall in 2014, Kempe recorded 17 points (5-12=17) and 42 penalty minutes in 50 games with SHL-Modo. His two-year contract with the Örnsköldsvik-based club expired after a 2014-15 season in which Modo fought off Allsvenskan relegation to remain in Sweden’s top domestic league. Kempe also totaled four goals and eight points in six World Junior Championships games and should be a top line option for Sweden’s entry at the 2016 tournament.
